Southern Merle is a family owned and operated company based out of Canton, Georgia. Husband, Matt Summers and wife, Stefanie work alongside their two young daughters, Peyton and Reagan and truly are the definition of a family business.

Back in 2015, Matt wanted to do something with his passion for woodworking which drove him to open a booth in The Woodstock Market, showcasing and selling his handmade furniture. Stefanie worked full time in Corporate America but was helping him decorating his booth and making crafts to sell. After a while, it became so successful that Stefanie took a leap of faith and left her job to join Matt full-time.

Perfect timing, too because it was the next day that a sign on the Southern Merle Facebook page went viral and the couple sold thousands upon thousands within a few days!

In March of 2020, the couple decided to take a HUGE leap of faith and open another booth at the Cotton Mill Exchange- a new up and coming store in their town. This space was triple the size they were used to having and the couple was nervous about this big step during a notoriously slow time of year.

Of course we all know that this month in 202 was when everything shut down due to this new thing in the world called: COVID.

This was a scary time, especially for a small family business who relied on their stores being open. No sales were coming in so Stefanie got working on social media again. The family found laughter in their chickens and kids every day and Stefanie decided that if these silly farm animals could bring the family so much happiness during this time, then maybe they did the same for others.

So began, the farm animal funnies…

While the original dream was a woodworking business, Stefanie’s artistic side took over with making towels, handbags, aprons, pillows and so much more. The farm animals were a hit and people from all over the world began ordering these products like crazy!

This is where Southern Merle Mama came in to play- Farm animals and Sublimation Products for all custom ideas!

Together, Matt and Stefanie have created a shop for all things that their creative minds come up with!
